The Experience
Your session starts on the ground at the airfield with a quick safety briefing and an introduction to the aircraft. The instructor walks you through the main controls, explains how the fixed-wing microlight operates, and covers what to expect once you are up in the air.
After heading out to the tarmac and climbing into the cockpit, you take your seat alongside the instructor. The engine turns over, you taxi out to the runway, and the plane takes off into the sky. Because microlights are so light, you notice the ascent straight away as the ground drops off below you.
Once up at cruising height, the instructor hands over the controls so you can fly the aircraft yourself. You’ll get a real feel for how responsive the stick and rudder pedals are as you practice basic turns, climbing, and levelling off over the Essex landscape. Having an experienced pilot right next to you means you can focus entirely on driving the plane, while they keep an eye on navigation and airspace.
As the 30 minutes come to an end, the instructor takes back control to line the plane up with the runway and guide you back down for a smooth landing.
