Falconry Experience - Private Adventure:

The Experience

A private session for up to six people, this is an exclusive Falconry Adventure, just you & your Falconer.

Your packages includes:

Welcome
Complimentary tea or coffee on arrival

Briefing
Your day starts with an informal talk on the sport of falconry, wherein our visitors are encouraged to ask questions on falconry and birds of prey in general.

Hawkwalk
We take our guests to a lightly wooded area in the countryside for their hands-on and photo friendly flying session. Here they get the opportunity to fly two, or more, Harris Hawks out of trees to their gloved fist. This session lasts one hour and covers nearly a mile over flat grassland. Great Pics!

Falcon Show
You then return to the centre where the falconer will demonstrate the technique of flying a falcon to the lure for exercise. Spectacular in a good wind! More great pics. Visitors may have a photo holding a Lanner Falcon on their fist.

Other Birds
We then fly a Turkey Vulture and/or Black Kite, again many more pics.

Owl Show
Your activity then concludes with a photo session where you can get up close and intimate with some of our endearing owls and, of course, more super pics.

This activity finishes in time to give you the opportunity of trying a bar lunch in the Woodenbridge Hotel, which is Ireland’s oldest inn.

Falconry was already familiar by late Celtic times in the 7th century. For the earliest legislation for protecting raptors, Falconry was responsible and there are references in the Brehon Laws Ireland supplied the nobility of Western Europe with peregrines and goshawks until the end of the 19th century and the aristocracy of several nations brought their hawks here to hunt. The Irish Hawking Club was formed in 1870 and flying the sparrowhawk has a strong tradition in Ireland.
The Peregrine falcon is fastest animal on earth it has been clocked at diving speeds in excess of 200 miles an hour. Peregrine Falcons are also occasionally used to scare away birds at airports to reduce the risk of bird-plane strikes, improving air-traffic safety.
