The Experience
The Jacobite Steam Train, also known as The Jacobite Train or Jacobite Express, is one of the most iconic railway experiences in the world and one of the most scenic ways to explore the Scottish Highlands. Often referred to as the Harry Potter train Scotland, it is widely known for inspiring the famous Harry Potter steam train seen in the films.
The journey on the Jacobite Train takes you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Scotland, starting near Ben Nevis and continuing all the way to Mallaig, passing through Fort William, Glenfinnan, and Arisaig. The world-famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, also known as the “Harry Potter train” location, is one of the highlights of the route.
Travelling aboard the Jacobite Express is considered one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world, where the experience itself is just as important as the destination, with dramatic coastlines, lochs, and Highland villages along the way.
At Mallaig, the final stop, visitors can explore the charming fishing port, enjoy local shops and restaurants, and experience the authentic atmosphere of the Scottish Highlands before the return journey.

Wheelchairs can be taken aboard the train but must be foldable and passengers must be able to step on board the train themselves and also be seated in the train seat. Some of the platforms on the journey are much shorter than our train, which may necessitate walking through a number of carriages when boarding or alighting. In addition, the platforms at some remote stations are rather low or accessible only by a footbridge. These points should be borne in mind for guests who may have mobility issues.
