The Experience
This rail tour brings you into the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East.
The Waterford Crystal & Kilkenny City Rail Tour offers a relaxed way to explore two cities shaped by medieval history and culture. Your day begins at Dublin Heuston Station, where you join a hosted rail journey that travels through Co. Kildare and the open plains of the Curragh. This area is known for its racecourse and stud farms, and the landscape sets a calm tone for the trip.
The train continues through Co. Carlow before reaching Kilkenny, a city recognised for its narrow streets and elegant stone architecture.
After time to enjoy Kilkenny, the tour moves on to Waterford. Here you will visit the Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre and see how master cutters create each piece. The city itself carries a strong Viking heritage, which is reflected in its waterfront and historic landmarks.
The return journey follows the Suir Valley, a route known for its gentle views and rural atmosphere. A host will accompany you throughout the day, ensuring each stage runs smoothly and providing guidance where needed.
It is an easy and enjoyable way to experience a key part of Ireland’s story!
